Escape to the peace and tranquillity of the Creeksyde Holiday Park. Just five minutes from Queenstown’s centre, this unique holiday park was originally an old plant nursery. Over many decades, the current owners (and their friends from around the world!) have transformed the site into a holiday park where nature, comfort, and creativity come together. The park is landscaped with native tree species that create a food-rich sanctuary for a variety of birdlife. The campground has a strong focus on sustainability and was the first holiday park in the world to be certified under EarthCheck. Everything in the park is based around green philosophy including recycling stations, solar hot water, eco-friendly cleaning products, and waste reduction practices.

Must-do experiences for your Queenstown trip

Looking for some of the top things to do in Queenstown during your stay? Here are our recommendations for the must-do experiences to add to your road trip planner.

Ride the gondola

For the best views in town, head 480 metres above the city with Skyline Queenstown. Enjoy the unbeatable vistas of Lake Wakatipu, Coronet Peak, and the Remarkables as you ride the steepest cable car lift in the Southern Hemisphere. At the top, take a thrilling ride on the luge, enjoy a gourmet pizza at the Market Kitchen Cafe, and stock up on souvenirs from the Skyline Gift Shop.

Defrost in the hot pools

Enjoy a boutique retreat experience at the Onsen hot pools. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the magnificent Shotover River, Onsen offers a unique Kiwi twist to a Japanese bathing tradition. Choose from a selection of hot tubs to suit. We recommend the Outdoor Onsen which offers panoramic views of the mountains for up to four people. Or for couples, the Oval Onsen includes your choice of bath scents or salts and a complimentary drink and snack to enjoy during your rejuvenating soak.

Ride the Shotover Jet

One of Queenstown’s most iconic activities, a ride on the Shotover Jet is a thrilling experience like no other. Prepare for an adrenaline rush as you speed over water, experience 360-degree spins, and take in the spectacular scenery of the Shotover River and surrounding canyons.

See the sights from a steamship

Take a scenic cruise of Lake Whakatipu from Queenstown on board the TSS Earnslaw. This coal-fired steamship has been lovingly maintained since 1912 and is an iconic piece of Queenstown's history. Explore the ship or simply relax during the 1.5-hour cruise and enjoy a delicious meal or snack from the Promenade Café or a drink from the bar.

Have lunch at Fergburger

You can’t visit Queenstown without trying a famous Fergburger. Make sure you bring a big appetite though, these gourmet burgers are made to fill the gap! For seriously hungry tums, opt for the Big Al – we dare you!

Detour to Arrowtown

Known for its rich gold-mining history, the picturesque village of Arrowtown makes for a wonderful day trip from Queenstown. To soak in the town’s history, take a walk down Buckingham Street to see the line-up of small-town heritage buildings and tiny miners’ cottages. These date back to the late 1800s and are now home to boutique shops, galleries, bars, and unique stores.
