How long does it take to get to Milford Sound?

There are several routes leading to Milford Sound, each with its own unique landscapes and travel times.


Milford Sound from Christchurch

Starting from Christchurch, prepare for a scenic drive of approximately 760 km. This route, taking you through the heart of the South Island, requires around 9.5 hours of driving. With that in mind, we suggest planning an overnight stop along the way. 


Milford Sound from Queenstown
