9 reasons to visit the Margaret River

Share

Margaret River is a food-lovers paradise and the perfect place to indulge all of your senses while exploring by camper.

Get your taste buds tingling with freshly caught seafood, feast on farm fresh produce, drink wine while standing in the vineyard that produced it and devour as much cheese as your stomach can handle.

Stimulate your senses as you stand in a field of wildflowers with their delicate smell surrounding you, walk through the markets and have sensory overload as food cooks around you and people bustle about their business, or take a moment to enjoy the smell of the Australian summer – a mixture of warmth, eucalyptus, barbecues and salt air with a floral hint of frangipani.

If that isn't enough to entice you, how about a visual indulgence as you explore perfect beaches, stretching along the Western Australia Coast or check out one of the many local art-galleries and perhaps take a masterpiece home with you as a sweet memento from your time away?

There's no limit to the number of ways you can indulge in the Margaret River, so here's nine things you must do while visiting the region:

Visit the markets

Margaret River is abundant with famers' markets. Markets are the perfect place to sample a region's food and wine before packing it all up in the camper to make a delicious picnic with!

Do the rock lobster

Margaret River is home to the western rock lobster and the unique freshwater marron. You won't find either of these awesome crustaceans fresher anywhere else in the world. Margaret River is the perfect place to indulge you palate with a unique seafood experience.

Go beach hopping

The question won't be 'which beach?' it'll be 'how many beaches can we fit into our Margaret River escape?' With so many perfect white sand beaches, you'll find yourself arranging your driving schedule around which beach you'll be visiting for your lunch-time picnic each day!

The Margaret River Chocolate Company

No trip to the Margaret River is complete without chocolate, right? It's the ultimate indulgence so add the Margaret River Chocolate Company factory to your itinerary and sample everything from truffles and chocolate sauces to chocolate soap.

Whale watching

Never seen a whale in the flesh? It's an amazing sight you'll never forget. These truly majestic creatures are definitely worth a boat trip. The whale-watching season is one of the longest in Australia, meaning you can see whales from June all the way through to November.

A winery long lunch

Settle in for a good old-fashioned long lunch at one of the region's many fantastic wineries. The best part? Being able to sample a few wines before settling on a bottle (or two) to go with lunch, then being able to clamber back into your camper to retire for the evening.

Penthouse views

Immerse yourself in the natural environment completely and wake up to ocean views and nature at your doorstep. The best way to see this region is in a campervan! Going by campervan allows you to indulge your desire to see it all.

Deep sea fishing

Head out to deep water with someone who knows what they're doing. Find a fishing charter operator with plenty of experience, someone who knows the area well and hopefully before too long you'll be reeling in something delicious to cook up on the campervan BBQ for dinner!

Do what you want

The best thing about exploring the Margaret River in a campervan is there are so many wonderful things to do and places to explore! Take your time and meander through the countryside, visit a beach, eat your weight in cheese, tackle a seafood platter or indulge in a bottle of wine. The key is being able to fit it all in, and a campervan makes it possible.

Go explore, wake up to amazing views of the sunrise, while away your days hopping from beach to beach, picnic at incredible lookouts and most of all go where you want, when you want to!
